ANOTHER INDIE FILM ON ITS WAY TO DISTRIBUTION

Phelps Kelley, an Audio Mixer at HMS-DC, recently helped Babar Ahmed of 21^st Century Film Productions put the finishing touches to the DVD release of his feature film, Royal Kill.

Mr. Ahmed, the Producer/Director of the action-thriller film, re-edited the movie for its DVD release, adding new music and sound effects.  After re-editing the movie on Final Cut, he desired to work in a 5.1 surround audio suite with an HD monitor.  Working from a hard-drive containing the original ProTools mix session and combining the new audio from an OMF provided by Mr. Ahmed, Phelps re-mixed the film in preparation for laying back the 5.1 surround and stereo audio mixes to an HD-SR video master at 23.98fps.

“Working in a file based environment is nothing new to us at Henninger,” said Phelps.  “It was very quick and easy for me to open up Babar’s original ProTools session using a firewire 800 port and quickly bounce either just the dialog or the music and effects stems that I needed for the new mix.”

“Phelps’ command and competence in every aspect of the sound-mix and sound-editing process was evident from the moment he started work on the project. Because of his high level of professionalism and his enthusiasm towards his work, the project was completed to the highest standard attainable in a much shorter time than scheduled,” Babar concludes.

Phelps also created the multiple surround and stereo audio deliverables, including the Full mix, music and effects mix, and separate dialog, music and effects stems required by the company in California producing the DVD. Eric Dennis, Managing Video Editor at HMS-DC, created the SR master using the HD video file from Mr. Ahmed’s hard-drive.
